It was a beautiful night as we made our way through the streets of Palo Alto to our final destination, a restaurant named Lyfe Kitchen. A family favorite with health food and a casual vibe, it was a great place a couple of years ago for a kid who only ate pasta. I came back to see if it was really as good as I remember or if I have horrible memory. But this time I wouldn’t just order off the kids menu. I ordered the tomatillo shrimp tacos, a butternut squash soup and a cucumber and mint refresher. We waited anxiously for our food to come and I noticed that there was a surprisingly large amount of tables occupied for 7:00 at night, a good sign. My soup came piping hot with sweet aromas rising from it and the refresher drink had a nice balance of calming mint and fresh cucumber. The butternut squash soup was creamy and had a perfect blend of soothing fall spices like cinnamon and cumin. For my main dish, I got the tomatillo shrimp tacos with avocado smash, and chipotle aioli. Ordering this I was a little worried that they would abuse the tomatillo and over power the whole dish. But all that vanished once the server came over with it. After the plate had been set down, the smell of freshly grilled shrimp, filled the air. The tacos had a nice combination of fresh ingredients like onions and cilantro to shrimp. Except for the fact that the tortilla was soggy on the bottom, this was a very good dish.
So all in all, I thought Lyfe Kitchen was pretty good for being such a causal place. There were some high points and some low points, but altogether I loved it. Lyfe Kitchen is located at 167 North Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA. http://www.lyfekitchen.com/
So I rate Lyfe kitchen 3/5 french fries.
