Devil's Canyon Food Truck Critique

Devil's Canyon Food Truck Critique

This week we headed to Devil’s Canyon Brewery for their Friday evening “Off the Grid” food trucks.

There was five or so different food trucks ranging in options from Mexican to classics like burgers.  My mom and I decided to try one called Stixs & Spork.

I ordered a spicy noodle bowl with grilled garlic shrimp.  We paid at the window and waited anxiously for our number to be called.  I was starving and everyone was eating such delicious looking food around us.  I couldn’t wait to eat! Once our number was called, we picked up our

steaming hot dinners and found a spot to sit at one of the tables outside.

I opened up the cover to my meal and saw a beautiful array of shrimp, spicy noodles, fried shallots, and arugula.

While I was eating, I noticed how the flavors and textures really came together, to create a nice, light and relatively healthy dish.   Great for on the go, or casual lunch with friends.

But one thing that I don’t recommend is the garlic shrimp. It was a little tough and under seasoned, so maybe try the beef.  From what I could see, the noodles themselves weren’t different from normal, non-spicy noodle, they rather had a coating of spices to create an orange color and spicy-sour aroma rising around it.

They offered no dessert options, but there was a few flavors of soda as drinks.

After an hour of walking around the area and chatting with some friends, we were ready for dessert and maybe round two of some dinner snacks!  We migrated over to the mexican food truck. We ordered some fried plantains, a churro, and some loaded nachos. This time the wait was slightly longer, which is understandable because we ordered more things and more people were there.  It was 20 minutes or so later, and we got our food. First we just took in all the smells and looked at the interesting way they piped the churro batter into the fryer. It came to us in an unusual shape, it was very big and was basically a gigantic rope of batter covered in cinnamon and sugar.  Yum! This was one of the best churros I have ever had. It wasn’t too sweet and had the perfect balance of crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside. The next thing we tried was the fried plantains. In the dish, there was six slices of plantain and a drizzle of crema. The plantains were fried to perfection, and had one of the best sweet and salty combinations ever. I also really enjoyed the rich flavor of the crema, which balanced the salt. The final food item we tried was the loaded nachos, which came with loads of cheese, pork, beans and green onions. As a savory dish, this really settled nicely on the palate, by giving a little spicy and a little bit of salty goodness.

So, in all I really enjoyed the food trucks at Devil's Canyon Brewery.  The environment, the food, and people all flow together very well.

After this experience I rate Devil’s Canyon Food Trucks a 3.5/5 french fries.
